A common misconception amongst professional wrestling fans is that female wrestlers are generally less entertaining than male wrestlers. To combat this mindset, I have created Marquee Wrestling Association (MWA) for my senior capstone project. MWA is a female-only wrestling federation based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The company strives to show the talents and athleticism of its female wrestling crew through its visuals by combining traditional aesthetics associated with femininity and aesthetics associated with wrestling and strength.
I have additionally branded two wrestlers to show the possibility for expansion within the brand. My first wrestler is La Joya, a luchadora from Mexico City, Mexico. Her vibrant brand exemplifies the traditional high-flying lucha libre style and indicates she is a face wrestler or protagonist. My second wrestler, Xena Blayze, is from Austin, Texas. Her scorching Wild West brand exhibits that she is the heel or antagonist of the two.
